Install on Linux

Sail on Linux is in beta. Grab the package for your distribution from the latest release.

Pick your package#

DistributionPackageInstall it with
Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pop!_OS.debsudo apt install ./Sail-Launcher-<version>-amd64.deb
Fedora and other RPM-based distributions.rpmsudo dnf install ./Sail-Launcher-<version>-x86_64.rpm
Arch Linux, CachyOS and everything else.AppImagechmod +x Sail-Launcher-<version>-x86_64.AppImage, then run it

The .deb and .rpm pull in what Sail needs and add it to your app menu. On Ubuntu and Linux Mint, use the .deb if you can.

What you need#

  • A 64-bit distribution (Ubuntu 22.04 or newer, or something equivalent) with a normal desktop install.
  • For the AppImage: FUSE 2 (libfuse2, fuse-libs or fuse2). Without it, run the AppImage with --appimage-extract-and-run.
  • For Sail accounts: a keyring (KDE Wallet, GNOME Keyring or KeePassXC). Without one, accounts stay off and everything else still works.
  • For Windows games: Proton, run through UMU. Sail can download GE-Proton and UMU for you in Settings → Compatibility, which needs Python 3.

Updating#

When a new version is out, Sail tells you when it starts, and its update button opens the release page. Download the new package and install it the same way as the first time; your library and settings are kept.

What isn't on Linux yet#

  • Google Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox sync (Sail Cloud works)
  • The Maintenance Center
  • Emulator games
  • Spell checking

Sail says so where each of these would be, so nothing just silently fails.

Tested on#

I've tested it on Kubuntu 26.04 on real hardware, and on Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 44 and Arch Linux in virtual machines. Other distros should work too. If yours doesn't, open an issue with your distro and desktop and I'll take a look.
